Dear Parents and Principals, 2025–2026

Welcome to the Disaster & Climate Change Youth Academy (DACCYA). This initiative began in 2024, open to students in grades 9–12, for the Texas Gulf Coast. Students seeking college or a career will multiply their opportunities to be successful by completing this program.

At DACCYA, we are committed to equipping students with knowledge, practical skills, and meaningful experiences while also involving parents as active partners in their children’s learning journey. Together, we can enhance student engagement and long-term success.

The program offers students:

  • Skill- and knowledge-based online courses from FEMA’s National Disaster & Emergency Management University, NDEMU.
  • Introductions to essential tools for management positions, transcripts, certificates, and professional continuing education credits.  Upon completing the course, participants will be able to meet the changing economic challenges as they navigate life and reach for young adulthood.

Overview

  • We follow all campus and district rules and guidelines, including Titles 1, 3, & 9.
  • Employers will be able to confirm students’ efforts to reach multiple success pathways, qualifying them for potential manager-trainee positions across multiple industries, public and private sectors.
  • Completion Benefits: Students receive an official transcript and credentials from NDEMU, transferable to many universities as college-level coursework.
